Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance Reveals New Monsters

by Greg Martin

Capcom has revealed a new trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance during the latest PlayStation State of Play, offering the first major look at the expansion’s new setting, monsters and gameplay mechanics. Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC via Steam.

The expansion continues the story of Monster Hunter Wilds following the conclusion of the base game’s main campaign. The Forbidden Lands Expedition Team is suddenly confronted by the enormous Elder Dragon Lao-Shan Lung, whose arrival leaves widespread destruction in its wake.

The threat prompts the Expedition Team to construct Madoi Stronghold in preparation for Lao-Shan Lung’s eventual return. As construction progresses, the mists covering the skies of Wyveria begin to disappear, revealing the Skybound Eyrie, a new area located high above the clouds.

The Skybound Eyrie contains ancient ruins and previously undiscovered endemic life, while the Expedition Team will also encounter new dangers in the area. The trailer shows unseen Guardian Monsters and Elder Dragons entering the Forbidden Lands.

Nata, the young Keeper introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds, has also changed in the years following the encounter with Arkveld. He now supports the Expedition Team alongside Bangard, a Wudwud who accompanies him as they investigate strange abnormalities in the Skybound Eyrie.

Capcom also revealed 2 new monsters during the State of Play. Araketa is a large aerial monster that hunts in packs and uses powerful air currents generated by its wings to move at high speeds through the sky. Pack leaders use distinctive calls to direct the other members of their group.

The second new creature is Gundoraja, an Elder Dragon with a massive serpentine form and the ability to manipulate storms.

The expansion will also introduce new combat options through the Boost Bracer. When activated, the equipment temporarily grants hunters access to additional attacks, combos and movement abilities, giving players more options when facing the expansion’s tougher challenges.

Capcom says further abilities for each weapon type and additional gameplay mechanics will be revealed ahead of launch.

Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance will expand the game’s hunting experience with its new sky-based environments, new abilities and a higher level of difficulty. The expansion will also bring back Elder Dragons and introduce Master Rank content when it launches in 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC via Steam.
