Cyan Worlds has confirmed that its modern remakes of Myst and Riven will launch on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2 on May 19. Both titles will be available as standalone purchases priced at $34.99 each, with support for both traditional flatscreen play and full VR functionality at launch.
Originally released in the 1990s, Myst and its sequel Riven became landmark puzzle adventure games, with the former holding the distinction of being one of the best-selling PC titles for nearly a decade. These new versions have been rebuilt to take advantage of modern hardware, offering updated visuals, improved performance, and expanded accessibility for different playstyles.
A key focus for the remakes is flexibility in how players experience the games. Both titles support full playthroughs in either flatscreen mode or through PS VR2, with the development team emphasizing parity between the two approaches. Adjustments have been made across interaction systems, graphical fidelity, and rendering to ensure a consistent experience regardless of platform or display method.
On the technical side, players can choose between visual fidelity and performance. Ray-traced reflections are available in flatscreen mode, though enabling them limits performance to 30fps. Disabling these effects allows the games to run at 60fps using alternative rendering techniques. These options are designed to give players control over how the experience is presented, balancing graphical detail with smoother gameplay.
Both games also include enhancements for PlayStation 5 Pro, with improvements to visual detail, rendering quality, and overall presentation. VR players on PS5 Pro benefit from increased base resolution, while flatscreen mode sees upgrades to elements such as textures, foliage, and draw distance. The remakes make use of Unreal Engine upscaling technologies to further refine image quality across both standard and enhanced hardware.
Additional features include support for the PS5 Power Saver mode, which reduces rendering demands and caps performance at 30fps to lower energy consumption. The games are currently available to wishlist on the PlayStation Store ahead of their release later this month.
With their arrival on PS5 and PS VR2, the Myst and Riven remakes aim to reintroduce these classic puzzle adventures to a modern audience while offering long-time fans a refreshed way to revisit their worlds.
