Steam Controller Sells Out Shortly After Launch, Valve Promises Restock Update

Valve has confirmed that its recently released Steam Controller has already sold out, just days after becoming available on May 4. The company acknowledged the unexpected demand in a statement shared via its official social media account.

“Steam Controller ran out faster than we anticipated, and we hate that not everyone who wanted one was able to get it,” Valve said. “We’re working on getting more in stock and will have an update on expected timeline soon.”

The controller marks a new iteration of Valve’s earlier hardware, building on the ideas introduced with the 2015 model. The updated version adopts a more refined, symmetrical layout inspired by the Steam Deck, while retaining a focus on customization and flexibility. It includes magnetic TMR thumbsticks, four programmable back buttons, and built-in gyroscopic controls designed to support motion-assisted aiming.

Designed to work closely with Steam Input, the controller allows extensive configuration across a wide range of games, from traditional controller-supported titles to more complex PC experiences. Its feature set continues to target users who prefer playing from a couch setup without giving up the precision typically associated with keyboard and mouse controls.

Valve has not yet shared a specific timeline for when the Steam Controller will be restocked, but says further updates will be provided soon.
