Nintendo Direct delivered a packed showcase for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, revealing several new first-party games alongside major third-party releases, remasters, updates and new content. Among the biggest announcements were Metroid Ravenous, Kirby and the World Beyond, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Persona 6, Monster Hunter Wilds and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.
Nintendo opened the presentation with two major new adventures for its iconic characters. Metroid Ravenous is a new 2D action-adventure starring Samus Aran and is being developed exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. The game launches on Jan. 28, 2027, with standard and special editions available, while Samus and Chozo Statue amiibo will also launch alongside the game.
Kirby is also getting a new 3D adventure with Kirby and the World Beyond. The game will let players explore a large world while making use of Kirby’s Copy Abilities, with its release scheduled for spring 2027. The launch will also coincide with the Kirby series’ 35th anniversary.
Nintendo also announced Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch 2. The enhanced version includes the previously released Expansion Pass content, improved visuals and frame rate, larger enemy counts during battles and a new Calamity Mode. It will launch on Feb. 25, 2027.
Pikmin 4 is similarly receiving a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition with Dandori Academy. The new version adds voice commands for Oatchi through the console’s built-in microphone, while Dandori Academy introduces 72 stages, online leaderboards, medals and three difficulty levels. It launches on Nov. 12.
Mario Kart World is receiving a free update that adds 10 classic courses from Super Mario Kart as standalone VS Race tracks. The update also introduces two new Knockout Tour routes, Propeller Rally and Turnip Rally, as well as Spectator Mode for online and LAN play. The update is available later today.
Star Fox is also getting a free update on Sept. 29 that expands Battle Mode to support up to four players on a single Nintendo Switch 2 system. Three new stages will be added as well, while Star Fox Adventures is joining the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics library later today for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members.
One of the largest third-party announcements was Monster Hunter Wilds coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on Dec. 4. The version includes previously released Title Update content, including the Grand Hub, Mizutsune, Lagiacrus and the Final Fantasy XIV collaboration. The game supports local wireless play and online cross-platform multiplayer, while its large Ascendance expansion is planned for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
Square Enix is also bringing Final Fantasy VII Revelation to Nintendo Switch 2. The game is described as the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII remake project and follows Cloud and his companions as they travel aboard the Highwind while attempting to stop Sephiroth and Meteor. Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches on April 8, 2027.
Persona 6 was another major announcement for the platform. The new standalone RPG introduces a fresh cast while retaining the series’ combination of daily life, social bonds, supernatural adventure and turn-based combat. Persona 4 Revival was also confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2, revisiting the mystery surrounding the Midnight Channel. The remake launches on May 20, 2027.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis was revealed as a ground-up reimagining of Lara Croft’s original 1996 adventure. The game follows Lara as she searches for the scattered pieces of the Scion, taking her through locations including Peru, Greece and Egypt. It launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on Feb. 12, 2027.
Capcom is bringing three Resident Evil games to Nintendo Switch 2 on Oct. 16. Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition will all be released digitally, with the latter two and Resident Evil 2 receiving additional content in their respective editions. Pre-orders begin later today, with an early-adopter discount available through Nov. 7, 2026.
Mega Man: Dual Override is another new Capcom title announced during the presentation. Proto Man joins Mega Man as a playable character, with each hero offering a different combat style. Players can customize their abilities using Custom Chips, while both characters can access a powerful Override form. The game launches on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch in spring 2027.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is coming to both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on Dec. 10. The new puzzle adventure follows Professor Layton and Luke as they investigate strange incidents in the industrial-era American town of Steam Bison.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is also headed to Nintendo Switch 2 on Sept. 29. The upgraded version features improvements to visuals, performance and gameplay, alongside gyro aiming, Joy-Con 2 mouse controls and touchscreen support. Existing owners of the Nintendo Switch version can upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 version for free, while a new paid expansion called Songs of the Past is planned for 2027.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launches on Dec. 3 with new content. The enhanced release introduces Heroes’ Vault, a challenge mode featuring successive enemy encounters, and adds Shimmer as a new Hero with rapid-fire attacks and a Foresight ability. An upgrade pack will also be available for existing Nintendo Switch owners.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is another major Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. Players will enter the Dagdan Empire and compete in the strategic Heroic Games as part of a new story built around battles and political intrigue. The game launches on Sept. 17.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Royal Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. The release includes the base game, all premium story expansions, exclusive gear and a bonus questline.
Danganronpa 2×2 will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on Jan. 14, 2027. The game combines an enhanced version of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair with a completely new story featuring the same setting and characters, introducing new victims, culprits and mysteries.
Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United is a full 3D remake of the 1995 RPG. It features eight protagonists, a free-form adventure structure, newly arranged music and voice acting, along with the series’ Glimmer ability system. The remake launches on Feb. 16, 2027, for both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.
Yu-Gi-Oh! TAG FORCE GX is also returning on Feb. 16, 2027. Based on Yu-Gi-Oh! GX TAG FORCE 3, the game features updated visuals, enhanced Dueling and cards from the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX era, including content that was previously unreleased in the Americas.
Nintendo also revealed several smaller-scale projects and third-party ports. MECCHA CHAMELEON combines competitive multiplayer with drawing and hide-and-seek, supporting 1-12 players online and launching later today on Nintendo Switch 2.
Cairn, a climbing simulation centered on professional climber Aava, is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 early next year, with a free demo available later today. Fading Echo, an action-adventure RPG featuring a protagonist capable of shifting between human and water blob forms, arrives on Sept. 17 with a demo also planned for later today.
Onyx: The Dark Grip, developed by Bloober Team, is a supernatural 2.5D horror game coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. Players control a mysterious Entity that manipulates the actions of a traveler in a desolate ghost town.
Stage Fright, the new cooperative game from the creators of Overcooked!, is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch in 2027. Two players must work together to explore environments, solve escape rooms and uncover an ancient mystery, with online, local co-op and GameShare supported.
The Direct also featured Disney Dreamlight Valley: The Keepsake Sea, a new expansion arriving in November. The underwater adventure introduces new biomes and a story featuring characters including Milo Thatch from Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean and Megara from Hercules.
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is expanding beyond its sports-focused gameplay when it launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on Oct. 22. Players will be able to freely explore Wuhu Island, search for hidden hibiscus flowers, chase dolphins and collect Spocco Photos. A new Island Crown mode and Spocco Points system will also provide additional progression and customization.
Pokémon Pokopia’s Expansion Pass is receiving Part 2 later this year, adding new accessories and further customization options for players and their Pokémon.
The Direct also confirmed The Crew Motorfest for Nintendo Switch 2 on Oct. 8, bringing more than 800 vehicles and the game’s Hawaiian open world to Nintendo’s new hardware.
It Takes Two is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on Oct. 15 with enhanced visuals. The cooperative adventure supports online cross-platform play, GameShare and Friend’s Pass, while existing Nintendo Switch owners can upgrade for free.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore Edition will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on Nov. 5 with an optimized version of the story-driven adventure and a new set of 1980s glam-rock-inspired outfits.
Stellar Blade Complete Edition is also coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on Nov. 5. The package includes the NieR and GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE collaboration content, along with newly revealed Bayonetta costumes and Joy-Con 2 motion controls for selected non-combat activities.
Other games featured in the Direct included 007 First Light, THE ASCENT ULTIMATE EDITION, The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother, Bluey’s Happy Snaps, DRAGON QUEST HEROES: Torneko’s Mystery Dungeon -Classic HD-, DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World, Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon – Classic Edition, Far Cry 3 Classic Edition, Hela: of Mice & Magic, Hell Is Us, HOT WHEELS Infinite Rush, House Flipper 2 and Palia – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
The presentation also revealed SONIC PICO PARK, a Sonic-themed cooperative take on PICO PARK supporting 2-8 players. The game launches on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on Nov. 12.
Other upcoming releases include Eternal Anima on March 4, 2027, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves on Oct. 22, 2026, and Metal Slug Ultimate Collection in 2027. The latter will bring 10 classic Metal Slug games together with online multiplayer, leaderboards, a gallery and an expanded Combat School.
