Capcom has announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will launch on September 25, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The publisher also confirmed that a free playable demo is available starting today across all platforms ahead of the game’s release.
The announcement was made during PlayStation’s latest State of Play presentation, where Capcom debuted a new trailer showcasing additional gameplay and story details from the upcoming action title.
The latest footage introduces Mount Oe, a new location situated outside Kyoto. The area serves as the stronghold of a massive Genma claiming to be the legendary Shuten Doji. As protagonist Miyamoto Musashi battles his way through the fortress, players will witness the swordsman’s supernatural abilities, including enhanced speed and strength that allow him to overcome increasingly dangerous enemies and obstacles.
The trailer concludes with a glimpse of one of the game’s most powerful transformations, showing Musashi awakening his full Oni Warrior powers during battle.
Players eager to try the game before launch can download the newly released demo on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. The demo allows players to explore the historic Kiyomizu-dera Temple and take part in a major battle against Musashi’s rival, Sasaki Ganryu.
Capcom has also confirmed that players who complete the demo will receive a special in-game reward when the full game launches. The bonus item, known as the Kubi Akari charm, will be available to demo participants on September 25.
The publisher noted that the demo represents an early build and does not fully reflect the final game’s performance. A dedicated PC benchmark tool is planned for release at a later date to help players evaluate how the finished version will perform on their systems.
Pre-orders for Onimusha: Way of the Sword are available now. Players who reserve the game before launch will receive two bonus items: the Sealed Curse sword skin and the Lion Dog charm.
Capcom also detailed the game’s available editions. The Standard Edition will be offered both physically and digitally. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the base game alongside additional cosmetics and charms for Musashi. Meanwhile, the Premium Deluxe Edition expands on those bonuses with extra cosmetic items, outfits for supporting characters, and a digital soundtrack.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks the return of Capcom’s long-running action franchise and is scheduled to launch worldwide on September 25 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
