Capcom has announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will now launch on September 4, 2026, bringing the long-awaited return of the action series to players earlier than previously planned.

The upcoming title will be released for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store.

Alongside the revised release date, Capcom confirmed that pre-orders are available now. Players who purchase the Standard, Deluxe, or Premium Deluxe editions before September 24 will receive a selection of Early Adopter Bonuses. Further details on the included rewards are available through the game’s official website.

Capcom also announced that a playable demo is available now on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. The demo offers an early look at the game’s combat system and a portion of the opening experience.

Players who complete the demo and have save data on their platform will also be able to claim a Kubi Akari charm as a bonus item when the full game launches on September 4.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks the first new mainline entry in the franchise in 20 years. Set in a dark fantasy interpretation of Edo-period Japan, the story follows legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi, who wields a mystical Oni Gauntlet as he battles demonic forces invading Kyoto.

The game combines the series’ signature Issen counterattack system and Soul Absorption mechanics with an expanded sword combat system designed to deliver faster and more dynamic battles.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches on September 4, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A free demo is available now.
