Kojima Productions has confirmed that Bill Skarsgård will play the lead role in PHYSINT, Hideo Kojima’s upcoming action espionage project. The announcement was made during an Xbox update for Tokyo Game Show 2026, alongside a new poster featuring Skarsgård and Charlee Fraser.
In a video message shared by Xbox, Kojima confirmed that PHYSINT is now being published by Xbox and said the project is continuing to make steady progress. He also revealed that the team is working on casting, talent scans and collaborations with outside creators.
Kojima described PHYSINT as the culmination of more than 40 years of his career and a project intended to redefine “action-espionage” without being limited to existing genres in digital entertainment. He confirmed Skarsgård as the game’s player character, adding that the two are long-time fans of each other’s work and have decided to begin the project together.
Kojima also discussed the work conducted with Skarsgård and Fraser earlier this year, including costume fittings, scans and camera tests. He said the sessions gave him greater confidence in the project’s direction and helped solidify his vision for its final form.
The new teaser visual revealed alongside the announcement uses a photograph Kojima personally took of Skarsgård and Fraser during those sessions. The pair are joined in the previously announced cast by Don Lee and Minami Hamabe.
OD Development Update
Kojima also provided an update on OD-KNOCK, another project being developed through the partnership between Kojima Productions and Xbox. Performance capture and ADR recording, which had been paused during the SAG strike, resumed this year, with production now proceeding on schedule.
Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer are among the performers involved in OD, which Kojima described as “a completely new kind of game that tests the thresholds of fear.” He said the project continues to take shape through experimentation and iteration, with further information planned for a later date.
PHYSINT was originally announced in partnership with PlayStation Studios in January 2024. The publishing arrangement changed in September 2026, with Xbox Game Studios taking over publishing duties. The game currently does not have a confirmed release date.
