PlayStation will mitigate rising RAM prices and shortages by adjusting plans for unit sales and promotions.

In its annual report for the year ended March 31, 2026, Sony Group has shared that it expects the PlayStation business to face challenges from rising prices and supply shortages of memory semiconductors, but it has a strategy in place to protect profitability by adjusting plans for its unit sales and promotions. The company stated that, “although Sony expects to be affected by the impact of increased prices and supply shortages of memory semiconductors, it plans to manage the impact on profitability by flexibly adjusting plans for, among other things, unit sales and promotions.”

The statement suggests Sony Group may modify hardware sales targets, alter promotional campaigns, or adjust discounting strategies in response to fluctuations in memory costs and availability. Memory chips are a critical component in gaming hardware, and increases in RAM pricing directly affect manufacturing costs for consoles.

Outside of hardware, Sony Group plans to achieve continued growth for PlayStation by increasing revenue from its PS Plus subscription service. It aims to accomplish this by improving user engagement, enhancing content offerings, and encouraging subscribers to move to higher tiers. The company also intends to maximize average revenue per user through the PlayStation Store while continuing to strengthen relationships with third-party publishers and support the creation of new game franchises.

On the first-party side, Sony Group aims to maintain a steady cadence of annual single-player releases while also continuing to build a portfolio of live-service titles. The company additionally highlighted the growing role of AI across its operations, from development tools that improve studio productivity to personalization and recommendation systems on the PlayStation Store.

Sony Group also reiterated its commitment to expanding PlayStation IPs beyond gaming through film and TV adaptations in order to increase the reach and monetization potential of its franchises.
