Sony has shared new details about how it plans to use artificial intelligence across its businesses, including PlayStation, emphasizing that the technology is intended to support creators rather than replace them.
In a presentation discussing growth opportunities through AI, Sony stated that “AI is not only for efficiency, but also a tool to empower creators to expand their creativity, making it easier to take on more innovative projects that were previously difficult to pursue due to constraints of cost and time.”
The company said it is continuing a collaborative pilot initiative with Bandai Namco to explore the use of generative AI and other advanced technologies. According to Sony, the project has already demonstrated benefits, including “a significant increase in speed and an improvement in productivity per person in video production.”
Sony added that it plans to combine its own technologies with generative AI to create what it describes as a “creator-first production environment” while maintaining safety and security standards.
The company also outlined how it expects AI to influence the future of the PlayStation ecosystem. Sony believes that as AI lowers barriers to content creation and increases the volume of available content, PlayStation’s platform and studios will play an increasingly important role in helping players discover high-quality experiences.
Within PlayStation Studios, Sony said AI-powered tools are already being used to automate repetitive workflows and improve productivity in areas such as software development, quality assurance, 3D modelling, and animation.
According to the company, these tools allow development teams to spend more time focusing on game design, world-building, and gameplay creation rather than routine production tasks.
Sony also highlighted broader platform applications, stating that AI is helping improve efficiency, personalisation, and customer value across PlayStation services. The company expects continued investment in artificial intelligence and machine learning to contribute to advances in visual fidelity and overall player experience.
Summarising its outlook, Sony said AI is expected to enhance the creativity of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s studios, strengthen content discovery on the PlayStation platform, and deliver a more consumer-focused gaming experience.
