Nintendo could be preparing ports of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, with insider Shpeshal Nick claiming the games are currently planned for release in late September or October.
Shpeshal Nick shared the information on social media after revisiting messages connected to an earlier rumour involving a Zelda 40th anniversary console and Pro Controller. That previous information was later confirmed.
“Currently, the ports of Pokémon Ruby/Emerald/Sapphire are planned for late September/October,” Shpeshal Nick said.
The insider did not provide further details about the ports, including whether all three games would launch together, whether they would be based on the original Game Boy Advance releases or receive additional features, or whether both Switch platforms would receive the games.
The three games originally released for Game Boy Advance as the third generation of the Pokémon series, introducing the Hoenn region and mechanics including Abilities, double battles, natures and Secret Bases.
Pokémon Emerald later expanded on Ruby and Sapphire with changes to the story and additional content, including the Battle Frontier.
For now, the reported late September or October window should be treated as a rumour. Nintendo has not officially announced Pokémon Ruby, Pokémon Sapphire or Pokémon Emerald ports for Switch or Switch 2.
