The PS5 emulator known as Kyty is now capable of running some of the console’s 3D games at up to 30 fps on PC.
Members of the PS5 Emulation Dicord (via Techjunkie_Aman on Twitter/X) have shared an update on the recent progress of PS5 emulator Kyty, showing some 3D games running at frame rates up to 30 fps on PC. At this rate, GTA VI fans on PC may end up playing the game alongside console players at launch!
On of the aforementioned games is GameMill Entertainment and Cradle Games’ action game, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Wrath of the Mutants, which now successfully goes in-game and manages to run at frame rates between 22-24 fps. Though, it’s worth mentioning that the game crashes when it is first launches, but is able to run without further crashes after restarting. A video of the game in action on the Kyty emulator can be seen below.
The second PS5 game that is able to run via the Kyty emulator is Microïds and PlayMagic’s first-person shooter, XIII, which appears to run at a frame rate close to 30 fps. Some would consider it to already be in a playable enough state. That said, plenty of work still needs to be done. There are currently plenty of graphical issues, such as the entire floor and skybox not being rendered.
Regardless of how one may feel about the current state of the emulator, there’s no denying the tremendous amount of progress it has made in very little time. As such, both Kyty (Github page) and the Vulkan-based SharpEmu (Github page) PS5 emulators are worth keeping an eye on for future milestones.
The development of a PS5 emulator appears to have become a priority for emulation enthusiasts soon after Sony Interactive Entertainment announced its exit from the physical games market. It also helps that the release of the juggernaut known as GTA VI is on the horizon, and the game not coming to PC anytime soon likely serves as a key motivation.
