Sony Interactive Entertainment’s upcoming mid-gen console refresh, the PS5 Pro, does not support faceplates for the PS5 Slim.
The Amazon Japan store page for the PS5 Pro contains an infographic indicating that the upcoming console does not support PS5 Slim faceplates. Twitter/X user farfanetz noted that, going by the official photos of the 30th Anniversary Editions from Sony Interactive Entertainment for both consoles, there is a difference of around 1 to 2 inches between the top faceplates. However, the bottom faceplates for both the PS5 Pro and the PS5 Slim are a match.
Those who are in possession of special edition faceplates for the PS5 Slim will be disappointed to know that they won’t be compatible with the PS5 Pro. It’s likely that the PS5 Pro exterior is thicker in design around the top faceplate region, making it difficult to match its dimensions with those of the top faceplate for the PS5 Slim.
The Amazon Japan infographic is the closest we have got to an official confirmation on the matter. Sony Interactive Entertainment has yet to offer clarification on whether the PS5 Pro and PS5 Slim faceplates are compatible with each other.
In related news, an anonymous game developer and member of the Reset Era forums, who goes by the handle of Koralsky, had recently shared that they are currently working on two games that will offer native PS5 Pro support. One of the aforementioned titles has yet to be released while the other is already on the market. They added that both are open world games, with one running on Unreal Engine 4.27 and the other on Unreal Engine 5.4.4 and featuring Lumen RT global illumination, ambient occlusion, and reflections. According to them, the update workflow for the new console is very development friendly, even for a small studio such as the one they are working with.
