Sony recently released a minor update for the PS5 system, version 23.01-07.01.00.00, on March 14. This update, which is just under 1.5 GB in size, primarily focuses on enhancing system performance and stability. It is worth noting that this update is a minor increment from the previous version, going from 7.00 to 7.01 in terms of a system update.
The last major update was released on March 8 bringing the system software of PS5 to version 7.0. Among the notable features of the PS5 7.0 update is the integration of Discord voice chat, which allows PS5 users to communicate with their friends on other gaming platforms. To use this feature, users must link their Discord and PlayStation Network accounts, then use the Discord app on their mobile device or computer to initiate a voice chat on their PS5 console.
Furthermore, the update offers an added ability to initiate a screen share directly from a friend’s profile and a new “Join Game” icon in party chats that allows users to quickly and easily join games their friends are playing. The new “Friends Who Play” tile allows users to view which of their friends have a specific game, who is currently online, and who is presently playing the game.
Additionally, the update includes several other notable features, such as support for Variable Refresh Rate at 1440p, game library enhancements that allow users to sort and filter games, and the ability to transfer data from one PS5 console to another via a local Wi-Fi network or LAN cable.
