Sony Interactive Entertainment and Rockstar Games have said that Grand Theft Auto VI will “play best on PS5” when it launches on November 19, 2026.
The statement was made in a new PlayStation Blog post published alongside the opening of GTA 6 pre-orders, with Sony highlighting its partnership with Rockstar Games and the ways the upcoming title will utilize PlayStation 5 hardware features.
“Thanks to the close partnership between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI will play best on PS5 by taking advantage of PS5’s immersive features to deliver a deeply engaging single-player experience when it launches on November 19,” wrote Mary Yee, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment.
According to Sony, GTA 6 will make extensive use of the DualSense wireless controller. The company says haptic feedback will provide responsive vibrations tied to player actions, while adaptive triggers will offer varying levels of resistance depending on gameplay situations. The controller’s integrated speaker will also be used to deliver additional audio effects during key moments throughout Jason and Lucia’s story.
Sony also highlighted support for Tempest 3D AudioTech, which it says will help bring the sounds of Leonida to life through more precise audio positioning. The technology is designed to enhance environmental awareness and immersion across Vice City and the wider game world.
In addition, Rockstar is leveraging the PlayStation 5’s SSD to reduce loading times, with Sony claiming players will be able to experience the expansive open world with near-instant loading.
The announcement does not mention any exclusive content or platform-exclusive features beyond the use of standard PS5 hardware capabilities. Grand Theft Auto VI is also scheduled to launch on Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
Grand Theft Auto VI takes players to the state of Leonida and follows protagonists Jason and Lucia as they become entangled in a criminal conspiracy stretching across Vice City and beyond.
