Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition has reportedly been detailed ahead of its official announcement, with a new report pointing to a Nintendo Switch 2 release featuring several technical improvements over the original version.
According to Dealabs, the updated release is being positioned as the most complete edition of Sonic Frontiers to date. The report claims the package will include all post-launch updates, DLC content, gameplay improvements, and likely the bonuses previously included with the Deluxe Edition.
The biggest reported changes are tied to the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware itself. Dealabs states the new version will feature improved performance, enhanced graphics, and faster loading times compared to the original Nintendo Switch release, which faced criticism at launch for technical limitations and visual compromises.
Gameplay reportedly remains largely unchanged from the original release. Sonic Frontiers combines open-zone exploration with traditional Sonic mechanics such as high-speed traversal, rail grinding, combat encounters, and Cyber Space stages spread across the Starfall Islands.
The report also claims the game will launch physically on Nintendo Switch 2, though it remains unclear whether Sega plans to release the Definitive Edition on additional platforms. Pricing is reportedly set at $49.99 in the United States, which is expected to translate to €49.99 in Europe.
Earlier reports and rating board leaks suggested Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition could launch on June 23, 2026, coinciding with the Sonic franchise’s 35th anniversary celebrations. Sega has not officially confirmed the project at the time of writing.
Originally released in November 2022, Sonic Frontiers launched for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
