A new report from YouTuber Rebs Gaming has shared fresh details about Halo: Campaign Evolved ahead of the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase.
In a newly published video, Rebs Gaming claimed the upcoming remake relied heavily on outsourced development, stating that “a lot of outsourcing was used to create Campaign Evolved, even for core programming and design.” According to the report, co-development studio Abstraction handled technical and level design work for campaign missions, with the YouTuber adding that “it’s not really an in-studio project.”
The report also outlined several gameplay changes allegedly designed to modernize the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign experience. One of the biggest claimed adjustments involves The Library mission, which reportedly received “significant level design changes” to reduce repetition. Other campaign missions are also said to include redesigned repetitive sections.
According to the video, Halo: Campaign Evolved will not feature traditional multiplayer outside of online co-op and split-screen support. Instead, Halo Studios is reportedly focusing on replayability through a “campaign remix” system that uses gameplay modifiers and skulls to alter missions.
Rebs Gaming claimed one modifier introduces a full third-person mode, allowing players to experience the campaign from a new perspective while also viewing custom armor sets for Master Chief. The report also referenced another skull that allegedly spawns Brutes into any mission.
The YouTuber further stated that the remake includes nine weapons not present in the original Halo: Combat Evolved. Previously confirmed additions reportedly include the Energy Sword, Fuel Rod Cannon, Sentinel Beam, Battle Rifle, and Needle Rifle. The report also claims unannounced weapons include the SMG, Spiker, and Brute Plasma Rifle, while speculating the Flamethrower could round out the final addition.
Earlier reports surrounding Halo: Campaign Evolved claimed the game will feature three brand-new prequel missions designed to help bridge the narrative toward future Halo 2 and Halo 3 remakes.
Halo: Campaign Evolved has been officially revealed by Xbox Game Studios. It is set to launch in 2026 for Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PlayStation 5.
