A new PC mod for Bethesda Game Studios’ sci-fi action role-playing game, Starfield, has removed loading screens to allow seamless ship takeoff from planets into outer space.
Modder 0xBobby (via SynthPotato on Twitter/X) has created a new mod for the PC version of Starfield that allows seamless ship takeoff from planets into outer space by removing the immersion-breaking loading screen.
The mod works by spawning the player’s ship above the landing site in order to deliver a seamless experience. It is currently in beta, so users should expect bugs. “The seamlessness of the transition will depend on the atmosphere and weather of the planet, I am working on making the transition even smoother,” said the modder.
A video comparing a ship takeoff from a planet into outer space with and without the mod in Starfield can be seen below.
It’s worth noting that the mod doesn’t add the ability to perform a seamless ship landing from outer space to a planet’s surface. Despite being aware of a number of workarounds that could be used to pull it off, the modder doesn’t believe he’ll be able to deliver such a mod, as it would be a far more complex undertaking. He may attempt a proper No Man’s Sky-like seamless landing system in the future, though the chances of it happening are pretty slim.
“It probably won’t ever happen, at least not from me,” he said. “Yes, I know of all of the tricks I could use, hiding the loading through clouds or entry flames etc, but even that would be way more complex than what this mod or seamless grav jumps do. Plus they don’t really appeal to me, if I want seamless landings, I want the full thing, no mans sky style. I may attempt that, but the chances of it happening are pretty much 0.”
