Street Fighter Reboot Nears Original Film’s Entire US Box Office Run in Three Days

The 2026 Street Fighter movie has earned $31 million at the North American box office during its opening weekend, giving the franchise its biggest theatrical debut to date. The film opened in 3,575 theatres across the region and is projected to generate another $20.1 million internationally, bringing its estimated worldwide opening total to $51.1 million.

The domestic debut ranks second among fighting game adaptations, behind Mortal Kombat 2, which opened with $38.5 million in North America in 2026. Street Fighter’s opening weekend also exceeds the entire domestic theatrical runs of both previous films in the franchise.

The 1994 Street Fighter movie opened with $6.9 million in North America, while 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li debuted with $4.7 million. The new film has already surpassed The Legend of Chun-Li’s reported $8.7 million domestic lifetime total and is approaching the original film’s $33 million domestic run.

Despite the strong opening, the reboot faces questions about its performance in the coming weeks. Initial audience reactions have been mixed, with the film previously receiving a B- CinemaScore. Weak word of mouth could limit its staying power in theatres, although its opening weekend has established a new high for the franchise.

Released theatrically on October 16, 2026, the live-action adaptation was directed by Kitao Sakurai and distributed by Paramount Pictures. The film features Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, and David Dastmalchian as M. Bison.
