The trophies/achievements for Bandai Namco Entertainment and Tose’s Tales of Eternia Remastered have hinted at the possibility of a remake or remastered version of the 1995’s Tales of Phantasia.
Tales of Eternia Remastered is now available, and its list of trophies/achievements (via PlayStation Trophies) have been revealed. The description for one of them, titled Certified Protagonist, states, “Proof you defeated an Albane School swordsman. For more details, check out Tales of Phantasia!” Players are asked to checkout Tales of Phantasia for more details, suggesting that a remake or remastered version of the 1995 action role-playing game may be in development.
As for what sort of improvements and features one can expect in a potential remake or remastered version of Tales of Phantasia, the newly released Tales of Eternia Remastered serves as a good indicator. Among the new additions to the latter are destination markers designed to streamline exploration. Players can also enable a new Boost Function to adjust experience gains and encounter rates for smoother progression, while a Battle Retry feature allows for immediate rematches after falling in regular encounters.
Tales of Eternia Remastered also introduces event, skit, and movie skip functionality, pause controls for cutscenes, an autosave system, quick party healing, faster field movement, and a high-speed mode during auto-battles. Automatic message forwarding has been added alongside dedicated playback menus to replay unlocked skits, music, character voices, and movies. Players will be able to freely toggle between remastered and original background graphics and sound effects, customize button layouts for both exploration and combat, and switch between Japanese and English voice tracks.
Other additions include New Game+, a new difficulty setting, retry and skip options for mini-games, full subtitle support across skits, battles, and select mini-games, a new Help menu complete with gameplay tips, and revised color vision accessibility settings.
Tales of Eternia Remastered is available across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Windows PC.
