Two of the big upcoming PS4 exclusives, The Las of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima, are going to be delayed but launch before the PS5.
Naughty Dog had just announced a release date for The Last of Us Part 2 during a state of play event. The game was supposed to arrive on February 21, 2020, but it has been delayed to May 29, 2020. This delay was sudden and came as a shock due to Naughty Dog committing to a release date just a month ago.
In a blog post, The Last of Us Part 2 game director, Neil Druckmann has explained the reason behind this delay.
“I know. It was just about a month ago when we had our big blowout for the game, letting media play over two hours of it along with debuting our new story trailer and revealing the release date, ” said Druckmann.
“However, it was during the last few weeks, as we were closing out sections of the game, that we realized we simply didn’t have enough time to bring the entire game up to a level of polish we would call Naughty Dog quality.”
He explained that they either had to compromise or get more time in order to polish them and they decided to go with the latter. As a result, the game has received a delay of just over three months for PS4.
In other news, Jason Schreier, who first broke the news about a delay for The Last of Us Part 2 has also given an update on Ghost of Tsushima stating that it might be delayed to the second half of 2020. This upcoming PS4 exclusive from Sucker Punch was originally targetting the first half of 2020 but after this new update, this might get pushed to late 2020 but it will still launch for PS4.
