The Road of Dust and Sorrow Coming to Consoles in 2026

Silver Lining Interactive and developer Painted Black Games have announced that The Road of Dust and Sorrow will launch on consoles alongside its previously revealed PC version in 2026.

The announcement was made during the Future Games Showcase, where a new trailer offered a deeper look at the upcoming pixel-art survival horror title. The game is now confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.

Players interested in trying the game before release can already download a playable demo on Steam and Itch.io. According to the publishers, the demo has generated a positive response from players, particularly for its atmosphere, visual presentation, and narrative focus.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, The Road of Dust and Sorrow follows Katherine and her daughter Ava as they travel through the ruins of civilization in search of safety. The game’s story begins after an attempt to solve global famine ends in disaster. A failed cure transforms much of humanity into feral creatures known as Dusters, leaving the remnants of society struggling to survive.

As Katherine and Ava journey through the devastated landscape, they attract the attention of a mysterious preacher and his cult. Driven by ancient beliefs and unsettling motives, the group poses a growing threat as the pair continue their search for refuge.

The game combines exploration, puzzle-solving, and survival horror elements within a linear, story-driven structure. Players will navigate abandoned streets, decaying buildings, and overgrown environments while managing encounters with hostile creatures. Environmental puzzles, hidden pathways, and scarce resources are designed to create constant tension throughout the adventure.

A major focus of the experience is the relationship between Katherine and Ava. Protecting her daughter remains the central objective as players confront both monstrous threats and the harsh realities of a collapsing world.

Visually, The Road of Dust and Sorrow employs detailed pixel-art graphics inspired by classic survival horror games from the 1990s. The developers describe the project as a blend of emotional storytelling and horror, combining a handcrafted aesthetic with a bleak and dangerous setting.

The Road of Dust and Sorrow is scheduled to launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. A demo is available now through Steam and Itch.io for players who want an early look at the post-apocalyptic adventure.
