Remakes of Tomb Raider II and Tomb Raider III are reportedly already planned at Flying Wild Hog, despite the first remake in the series not yet being released. The claim comes from French outlet PSInsideFR, which says its sources at Flying Wild Hog provided the information.
According to the report, Flying Wild Hog, which is co-developing the first Tomb Raider remake with Crystal Dynamics, is already planning remakes of the remaining two games from the original trilogy. The projects are reportedly being considered as part of Crystal Dynamics’ broader strategy for remaking the classic Tomb Raider games.
The report further claims that development on the two potential remakes has progressed significantly and that planning began before the release of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.
Neither Crystal Dynamics nor Amazon Games has officially announced remakes of Tomb Raider II or Tomb Raider III, so the projects should currently be treated as unconfirmed.
Legacy Of Atlantis Is The First Planned Remake
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is a full remake of the original 1996 Tomb Raider. Crystal Dynamics is developing the game with Flying Wild Hog, with Amazon Games serving as publisher.
Legacy of Atlantis is scheduled to launch on February 12, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC.
The original Tomb Raider trilogy began with Tomb Raider in 1996, followed by Tomb Raider II in 1997 and Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft in 1998. All three games were recently brought to modern platforms through the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered collection, which launched in February 2024.
Tomb Raider Has Another New Game In Development
Alongside Legacy of Atlantis, Crystal Dynamics is developing Tomb Raider: Catalyst, a completely new mainline entry in the franchise. The game is scheduled for release in 2028 and is set in Northern India.
Catalyst and Legacy of Atlantis are both planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC.
If the report about the additional remakes proves accurate, Crystal Dynamics could ultimately pursue modernised versions of the entire original trilogy alongside its new projects. For now, however, only Legacy of Atlantis has been officially announced as a remake, while the reported Tomb Raider II and Tomb Raider III projects remain unconfirmed.
