Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Launches February 2027

Crystal Dynamics has officially announced Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a modern reimagining of the original 1996 Tomb Raider, set to launch on PlayStation 5 on February 12, 2027. The project is being co-developed with Flying Wild Hog and built using Unreal Engine 5, bringing Lara Croft’s first adventure to a new generation of players.

Revealed during PlayStation’s latest State of Play presentation, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis revisits the iconic journey that introduced Lara Croft to the world while significantly expanding and modernizing its environments, gameplay systems, and exploration mechanics.

According to Crystal Dynamics, the game recreates classic locations from the original release, including Peru’s Lost Valley and the ancient ruins of Greece, with enhanced visuals, updated audio design, and redesigned gameplay. The developer says the goal is to preserve the spirit of the original adventure while taking advantage of modern technology and design philosophies.

One of the most significant changes comes in the structure of the game’s environments. Rather than moving players through a series of isolated rooms and self-contained puzzle spaces, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis transforms these areas into larger interconnected environments. Players will be able to explore multiple pathways, uncover hidden secrets, discover collectibles, and gather resources throughout the world.

Classic puzzles are also returning in redesigned form. Crystal Dynamics highlighted the original cog puzzle as one example, explaining that familiar challenges have been rebuilt and integrated more naturally into the surrounding environments. The studio says this approach helps create a stronger sense of place while retaining memorable moments from the original game.

The developer describes the project as both a faithful recreation and a fresh interpretation of Lara Croft’s first adventure. Longtime fans can expect recognizable locations and story beats, while newcomers will experience a modernized version of the title that established one of gaming’s most iconic franchises.

Crystal Dynamics also detailed the available editions. The Standard Edition will be priced at $59.99 and includes the full game along with the Survivor Outfit as a pre-order bonus.

The Deluxe Edition will retail for $69.99 and includes the full game, the Survivor Outfit pre-order bonus, a Parisian Fugitive Outfit, a post-launch story expansion, and 48-hour early access for players who pre-order the game.

Pre-orders are available now through the PlayStation Store. While the game launches on February 12, 2027 in most regions, players in Japan, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand will gain access on February 13 due to regional release timing.

With Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Crystal Dynamics is revisiting the beginning of Lara Croft’s legacy, offering a modern take on the adventure that started one of gaming’s most enduring series.
