Warhorse Studios Responds to Lord of the Rings RPG Rumors

by Salal Awan

Warhorse Studios has addressed ongoing speculation about a potential Lord of the Rings RPG during a recent Reddit AMA, though the developer stopped short of confirming any connection to the rumored project. The discussion included several key members of the studio, including creative directors, design leads, and community representatives.

When asked directly about rumors surrounding an open world Lord of the Rings game, content director Ondrej responded, “Voilá there is a response! But unfortunately not the one you hope for. We are hard at work on … something. I cannot disclose details but I can tell it is a huge, immersive RPG.” The reply neither confirms nor denies the speculation, but it does reinforce that the studio’s next project remains within the RPG genre.

Further comments from Warhorse Studios reiterated that direction. Community manager Tom stated, “We are of course, hard at work on our next game. But… Like you guessed we can’t tell you much about it, not yet. What I can say though, we’ll be sticking with what we know, RPGs. Don’t expect us to go rogue and make an NBA game!”

The team also declined to provide a timeline for when more concrete details might be revealed. Responding to questions about future announcements, Tom explained, “It’s hard to put a timeframe on the release of our next game. Of course we’re hard at work on something but development never goes exactly as planned, and delays can pop out of nowhere (or that’s how it can feel!). It’s not a satisfactory answer, I know, but we’ll tell you when the time is right.”

While rumors of a Lord of the Rings RPG continue to circulate, Warhorse Studios has not confirmed any involvement with the franchise. For now, the only clear takeaway is that the developer is working on a large-scale, immersive RPG project, with further details expected at a later date.
