New details about 007 First Light suggest that IO Interactive is aiming for a campaign length of roughly 20 hours for the average player. The information comes from content creator JorRaptor, who shared insights into the structure and scope of the upcoming James Bond title.
The reported playtime applies to a standard run through the main story, which centers on a younger version of James Bond before he earns his 00 status. The narrative begins with Bond as a naval air crewman involved in a failed mission, eventually leading to his recruitment by MI6. The campaign is said to combine cinematic storytelling with interactive elements, including a training mission that introduces players to mechanics such as stealth, gadgets, and environmental interaction.
Gameplay appears to lean heavily on player choice, with mission design that supports multiple approaches. Players can rely on stealth, disguises, hacking, or direct combat depending on their preferred style. Gadgets, including the Q watch, are expected to play a key role, while resource management adds some tactical consideration. Missions reportedly balance scripted sequences with more open ended scenarios, and a checkpoint system allows players to revisit sections and experiment with different strategies.
Outside of the main campaign, the game is said to include a Tactical Simulator mode designed to extend playtime. This mode reuses locations from the story but introduces new objectives, higher difficulty, and specific gameplay conditions such as restricted gadget use. Players can unlock upgrades, weapons, and outfits through this mode, with additional missions planned as post-launch content.
007 First Light is scheduled to release on May 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version planned for later in the summer. Developed and published by IO Interactive in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, the game presents an origin story for a 26 year old Bond as he begins his journey within MI6.
