During the recent Xbox Two podcast, Windows Central’s Jez Corden revealed that he’s “fairly sure” that 343 Industries, developer of the Halo series, is working on a brand new Halo project. The first assumption that comes to mind is the possibility of some sort of a single-player expansion or DLC for Halo Infinite. However, that’s not the case, as Jez went on to state that this project isn’t related to Halo Infinite.
“I’m pretty sure 343 is working on another Halo project that isn’t Halo Infinite. I’m fairly sure. Not 100%.”
A brand new Halo project could mean many things, including some sort of a spin-off game set outside of Master Chief’s timeline. It may also have something to do with the Halo TV series that is currently airing on Paramount.
While a new entry in the Halo Wars spin-off series would be interesting, we think 343 Industries are probably better off playing to their strengths. A first-person shooter that follows the Arbiter’s story arc could be a worthwhile endeavor, particularly for fans of Halo 2. A more grounded Halo spin-off that ties into the characters and events surrounding the Hunt the Truth audio log series could work as well.
What approach and genre 343 Industries decides to opt for with this latest entry in the Halo series remains a big question mark, but it’s good to know that a new project is being worked on. Halo fans weren’t particularly impressed with Halo Infinite’s visuals, and if this new Halo project is only targeting the Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PC, there’s potential for a significantly better-looking game here. Hopefully, they don’t end up with the worst maps in Halo.
With the announcement of an Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase next month, the rumor mill is currently about in full force. If this new Halo project is indeed real and has been in development for some time, we may see an early glimpse of it soon enough.
