AMD is reportedly preparing to raise the supply price of its Radeon graphics cards by at least 10%, according to a new report from Channel Gate. The rumoured increase is said to take effect from August and will apply uniformly across the company’s add-in-board (AIB) partners.
The report claims AMD previously finalised the price increase last month but decided to delay its implementation. According to sources cited by Channel Gate, the company was concerned about weak consumer demand, high existing inventory levels and the potential impact on competitiveness while NVIDIA’s GPU pricing remained unchanged.
With NVIDIA now also reportedly increasing graphics card prices, AMD is said to be moving ahead with its own pricing adjustments. The report states that AMD has informed AIB manufacturers that the supply price of bundled GPU cores and memory will rise by at least 10%.
If the reported changes go ahead, the increase is expected to filter through to retail pricing once graphics cards built with the new inventory begin reaching retailers. Channel Gate also claims Radeon products will be positioned at price points more closely aligned with NVIDIA’s competing graphics cards.
AMD has not officially announced any changes to Radeon GPU pricing, and the reported increase remains a rumour until confirmed by the company.
