Anthem VIP Demo Can Hit Low 20s Frame Rate On Xbox One

by Ali Haider

Anthem is an ambitious game so how does it run on the base consoles? Apparently not that great, at least on the Xbox One where it can drop to low 20s during firefights and exploration.

Anthem was first revealed with the game running on Xbox One X and right from the beginning, it seemed obvious that it was a worthy next-generation contender. It seemed visually quite ambitious and since Anthem featured a large open world to traverse, it could have ended up being a disaster on the base consoles.

The game runs on the Frostbite Engine by EA DICE which drops to as low as 720p for the Xbox One, but this is with a frame rate that targets 60 FPS. Anthem VIP Demo that is ongoing still runs at 30 FPS so this eliminates some of the cost involved with running the game, but it is not exactly a smooth experience either. Sadly, Anthem is not going to offer 60 FPS on the PS4 Pro or Xbox One X either.

The first frame rate analysis for Anthem was done by YouTuber channel AMX Gameplays who have shared a frame rate analysis for it on the Xbox One. It can be seen running on the Xbox One S and as expected, the frame rate is not that great with drops into low 20s making the experience less than ideal.

Still, we have to keep in mind that this is just a demo so it is possible that EA DICE can optimize the frame rate in time for the launch of the game. As seen with some other games like Resident Evil 2, this doesn’t always turn out to be the case.
