God of War fans who finished the game had to wonder why they didn’t see Odin in the game and now the game director has finally explained the reason behind his absence.
Most of the fans speculated that Odin might play a bigger role in any sequel to God of War and hence the developers wanted to keep his appearance as a surprise in the game. This might be true after all since the story deals with the events of Ragnarok that might play an important role in the sequels, but Odin was still nowhere to be found in the game.

God of War Director Cory Barlog has now explained the reason on Odin’s lack of presence saying that they hadn’t finalized the design of his character in the first game. He shared an image of the concept that they had in mind for Odin and it was barely a sketch.
Some people wonder why we don't see Odin in the game, well that's because we never really nailed the concept for him. This image represents the best we got, so I decided he would be a character you feel more than see.

In the picture, you can also spot an unused enemy that also didn’t make the cut in the final game. Odin appears to hold a grudge against Kratos after all he will be the one that ends up killing his son in the game. Thor is the one that ends up paying a visit by the end of God of War if you go for the true ending. Sadly, there isn’t going to be any DLC for the game as confirmed by Cory Barlog, so we have to wait for the inevitable sequel.
