The Last of Us Part 2 finally has a release date. There will be four different editions of the game. It is also apparently shipping on two discs.

As the pre-orders started to go up for The Last of Us Part 2 including the Special, Collector’s and Ellie edition, the retailer listings have now unearthed another new information regarding the game. It is apparently the largest game developed by Naughty Dog if we go by the sheer file size requirement. The game will reportedly ship on two discs.

The two-discs confirmation was discovered in the special edition listing for The Last of Us Part 2 on Best Buy. It lists the features and extras that are a part of the special edition including the number of discs.

The listing has the following description: “Includes Full game (2-Discs), 48 page mini art book, Steelbook, Avatar set, Dynamic theme.” This makes it clear that the full game will ship on two discs making it a multi-disc game. If this is anything like Red Dead Redemption 2, then it means that the second disc will be used for installing game content to hard disk.

This will make The Last of Us Part 2 the second major game in recent times to ship on two discs at launch. The first one was Red Dead Redemption 2 while the other upcoming game that is confirmed to launch on two discs is Final Fantasy VII Remake. Coincidentally, The Last of Us Part 2 is launching very close to Final Fantasy VII Remake. The release date was confirmed to be February 21, 2020, while Final Fantasy VII Remake will be out on March 3, 2020.
