BlizzCon 2026 has delivered several major announcements across Blizzard’s biggest franchises, including the reveal of Diablo V, a new StarCraft open-world shooter, World of Warcraft Forever and substantial updates for Overwatch and Hearthstone. The opening ceremony also brought new content for Diablo IV and Warcraft III Reforged.
The biggest announcement was Diablo V, which is scheduled to launch in Spring 2029. The new entry will take place in a Sanctuary where Diablo has already won, leaving the world in ruins and its heroes defeated. Blizzard says the game will explore what its characters must become after the world has already fallen.
StarCraft is also making a major return with an original open-world shooter set in the Koprulu Sector. Simply titled StarCraft, the new game is scheduled for Spring 2030, although Blizzard has not provided further details about its gameplay or story yet.
Blizzard also revealed World of Warcraft Forever, a new third version of the MMO that will exist alongside Modern and Classic WoW. Set during the Vanilla era, Forever will introduce three new zones, more than 1,000 new quests, nine dungeons, two raids and the new Skyborne playable race. The game launches on November 4, 2026, with its beta beginning September 17.
Warcraft III Reforged is receiving its first new story campaign in more than 23 years with Forsaken Kingdom. The campaign focuses on the fall of Lordaeron and its transformation into the Undercity, while the accompanying 3.0 update introduces a major graphics overhaul and a revamped World Editor. The campaign and update are available now.
Overwatch is celebrating its 10th anniversary with new content, including Doctrine, a vampire-inspired Support Hero, alongside major reworks for Sombra and Roadhog. The new Watchpoint: Grimsvötn map will also arrive with Season 5, which concludes The Reign of Talon narrative arc. Blizzard will reveal more about the game’s future during an Overwatch Spotlight in February 2027.
Hearthstone is also expanding with Reign of the Black Empire on October 20. The expansion introduces the Assemble keyword and brings the game back to an era dominated by the Old Gods. Battlegrounds will receive a new Aberrations minion type on September 22, while the Monk class is scheduled to arrive in March 2027.
Diablo IV will receive Season of Hell’s Legacy on September 15, while the javelin-wielding Amazon class arrives in the first half of 2027. The game is also launching on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 15.
Finally, Blizzard confirmed that a new animated Diablo series is in development with Netflix, expanding the franchise beyond games.
