Cyberpunk 2077 is confirmed to have a multiplayer which will be released after launch. CDPR has talked about potential monetization for the multiplayer.
CD Projekt Red has disclosed its financial results recently and they had a strong 3rd quarter. The main driving force behind their performance was again The Witcher 3 which has now sold through 20 million copies worldwide. It launched for the Nintendo Switch in October and had a strong launch that contributed to the revenue this quarter.
CD Projekt Red was asked about monetization and the multiplayer mode of Cyberpunk 2077 in a post-result conference call. Here is what the president of CD Projekt Red, Adam Kiciński, had to say regarding Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer, translated from Polish through Google.
“When it comes to monetizing the multiplayer Cyberpunk – we now think it is far too early to reveal any details. The project is at an early stage of development, and we are constantly experimenting – after all, this is our first game multiplayer, ” said Adam.
“We are exploring various possibilities and so far it is not the time for precise determination directions, although it can be safely said that we will not compromise our own policy “Contracts with players”. Monetization will be intelligent and we will ensure that – how always – deliver valuable products in exchange for payment received.”
CD Projekt Red is referring to its policy of offering its customers the same experience. They have done it in the past with The Witcher 3 that didn’t ship with any pre-order bonus or limited launch exclusives, and they have said the same for Cyberpunk 2077. They are also against microtransactions in general and don’t want to do anything that fractures their fanbase.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be out on April 16, 2020, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
