Community Blacklash Against Double Fine Stretch Goal To Bring Ghost Of Yotei Actor Erika Ishii To Next Game Leads To Locked Comments

Community backlash against Double Fine Productions’ stretch goal to bring Ghost of Yotei actor Erika Ishii to its next game has led to locked comments on Twitter/X.

The studio’s official Twitter/X account recently shared a post, in which it revealed that it has reached funding of 550,000 US Dollars for its upcoming project. Double Fine Productions further announced its next stretch goal to have Ghost of Yotei actor Erika Ishii lend their voice talent to its next game at funding of 600,000 US Dollars. This resulted in severe community backlash that has led to the developer making the decision to lock further comments under the Twitter/X post over concerns pertaining to harassment.

“We just hit 550K funded, so it’s time to announce our next stretch goal!” read Double Fine Productions’ Twitter/X post. “At 600K, ERIKA ISHII (Ghost of Yōtei, Dropout, Dimension 20) will lend their voice talent to the winning project!” In response to the backlash, the studio stated, “Since this is the only platform where people can’t seem to be normal about this, the comments have been locked. We don’t support harassment on our timeline in any form, hope that clears things up!”

Erika Ishii previously played the role of Ghost of Yotei protagonist Atsu, who journey’s across Ezo in pursuit of revenge. During the story, she gains access to a wide range of close-combat, ranged, and throwable weapons, expanding on the selection featured in Ghost of Tsushima. Rather than the previous game’s stance-based combat system, Ghost of Yotei introduces a weapon-counter mechanic. New weapons provide Atsu with different ways to deal with specific types of enemies. These include the yari, a spear; the kusarigama, a chain-and-sickle weapon, and the odachi, a large two-handed sword. The hankyu and yumi bows from Tsushima also make a return. while Atsu can additionally obtain firearms such as the tanegashima, a matchlock rifle, and the tanzutsu, a matchlock pistol. Ghost of Yotei was released on October 2, 2025, exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
