Bandai Namco Entertainment and Spike Chunsoft’s upcoming fighting game, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero may include a local co-op mode at launch.

The PlayStation Store page for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has been updated ahead of Summer Game Fest 2024, hinting at the possibility of a local co-op mode being included in the game at launch. As per the details mentioned on the store page, the game now supports up to 2 players offline.

Dragon ball sparking zero local co-op

The release date as well as future DLC plans for Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero are expected to be revealed at Summer Game Fest 2024. It’s possible that the inclusion of a split-screen offline mode will also be confirmed at the event.

This is contrary to what Dragon Ball Sparking Zero producer Jun Furutani had previously stated during a recent interview. He had mentioned that the upcoming fighting game will not include a split-screen local co-op mode, and that this decision was not made due to development issues. He clarified that a local co-op mode was excluded from the game due to issues related to Sony and Microsoft’s complicated certification process. At the time, Furutani had said that the development team had been looking into a solution, and it’s likely that the development team worked out a solution in time for launch.

Furthermore, the Dragon Ball Sparking Zero producer had mentioned that characters from Dragon Ball GT will be featured in the upcoming title, possibly in the base roster or as DLC. The game will also include fusions (e.g. Gogeta, Vegito, Gotenks). Additionally, it is said to feature a full-fledged story that will be an evolution of the story mode from Tenkaichi 3. As for the visuals, Furutani stated that they have been improved compared to the previously seen trailers for Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero is set to be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and Microsoft Windows.
