Bandai Namco has released Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO Super Limit-Breaking NEO, the largest downloadable content expansion for the anime fighting game to date. The DLC is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, with Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions planned for a later date.
Developed by Spike Chunsoft, the expansion introduces a substantial amount of new content, including a new solo mode called Limit Breaker Journey, 33 additional playable characters, four Episode Battles, Extra Battles and four new stages.
Limit Breaker Journey allows players to select a favourite fighter and strengthen them through a series of increasingly difficult battles. As players progress, they can improve their character’s stats and customise their development to suit different playstyles.
The DLC’s expanded roster includes characters from across the Dragon Ball franchise. New additions from the original Dragon Ball include Mercenary Tao, Grandpa Gohan, General Blue, Ma Junior, Chi-Chi, Demon King Piccolo and Goku (World Tournament). Dragon Ball Z adds fighters such as Mighty Mask, Supreme Kai, Kid Uub, Zangya, Super Saiyan Bardock and Chilled, while Dragon Ball GT introduces Super 17, Vegeta (GT), Trunks (GT), Nuova Shenron and Hell Fighter 17. Characters from Dragon Ball Super include Champa, Jaco and Cheelai, alongside several others.
Alongside the paid expansion, Bandai Namco has also released a free update for all players. The update adds two new gameplay mechanics and three additional stage variants.
The first new mechanic, Sparking Boost, allows players to consume a large amount of Skill Stock while in Sparking mode to gain a significant attack increase at the cost of a temporary reduction to other stats. The second, Chain Blast, lets players switch to a reserve teammate after launching an opponent, extending combos with a Blast attack and creating new opportunities for team-based strategies.
Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO is the latest entry in the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series, featuring large destructible arenas, fast-paced combat and a roster spanning multiple eras of the Dragon Ball universe.
