Bandai Namco has released a new Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 gameplay trailer, offering a closer look at the sequel’s combat systems and introducing the central theme of connection that drives both its story and gameplay. The action RPG is set to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam.
The latest trailer follows a rookie member of the Great Saiya Squad during a full mission, demonstrating how battles evolve from fighting groups of enemies to facing powerful bosses. Players will form squads of up to 4 characters, with the game’s connection system influencing character growth, customisation and combat alongside familiar Dragon Ball heroes.
Combat revolves around managing Ki throughout every encounter. Players can deplete an opponent’s Ki using combos, charged attacks and Ki Drain Super Attacks, eventually triggering a Ki Break state that leaves enemies open to a powerful Break Smash finisher. Super Attacks each offer their own additional effects, while Ultimate Attacks unleash cinematic special moves once their gauge is full.
The trailer also highlights Battle Styles, which alter a character’s moves and combo chains with techniques inspired by legendary fighters such as Goku and Vegeta. Players will be able to tailor their fighting style based on the heroes they choose to learn from.
New mechanics include Soul Assist, which allows players to call on a Dragon Ball character to perform one of their signature attacks after filling the Assist Gauge. Soul Switch temporarily lets players channel that character’s soul, changing their appearance and significantly boosting their combat abilities. The trailer also confirms race-specific transformations, including Super Saiyan, with Bandai Namco planning to reveal additional races and playstyles in future updates.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 takes place during the previously unexplored AGE 1000 era, where players create their own hero and fight alongside the legendary warriors who once protected Earth. Bandai Namco says more details about the game will be shared in the coming months ahead of its 2027 release.
