Elden Ring DLC Release Is Still A Little Ways Off, Development Is Progressing Well

The release of the DLC expansion for Bandai Namco Entertainment and FromSoftware’s Elden Ring, titled Shadow of the Erdtree, is still a little ways off, though development is progressing well.

Speaking during an interview, Yasuhiro Kitao, FromSoftware Lead Producer, was asked regarding the development progress of the Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, as fans are eager to get their hands on it. In response, he stated that he will discuss the expansion in detail on another occasion. He mentioned that the release of the Elden Ring DLC is still a little ways off, though he added that development is progressing smoothly.

Kitao shared that, much like with Bloodborne’s The Old Hunter expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree will bring new characters and boss battles. He mentioned that fans should expect a fresh experience from the expansion. He also thanked fans for their continued support, expressing surprise and gratitude over the number of people from the gaming community who played Elden Ring, far exceeding FromSoftware’s expectations.

Earlier, in its earnings report for the 2nd Quarter Ended September 30, 2023, FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa had also stated that a release window for the expansion had yet to be announced, though development had been proceeding smoothly.

Regarding the release date announcement for Shadow of the Erdtree, Twitter user and YouTuber Ziostorm, who shares Elden Ring related content, mentioned that it may happen at this year’s The Game Awards show. Though, they did state that their sources are unverified. Furthermore, the Twitter user stated that, based on what they’ve heard, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is set for release on February 5, 2024.

It certainly seems plausible for the expansion to receive a release date announcement at The Game Awards, especially since the story trailer for Elden Ring was previously presented at the show back in 2021. The show’s producer and host, Geoff Keighley, had recently visited From Software’s brand new office in Japan. He mentioned discussing the upcoming The Game Awards ceremony with developers. As such, it’s likely that they may have agreed upon a release date announcement and trailer at the show.
