In a recent interview with 4Gamer, Final Fantasy VII Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase reassured fans that the third entry in the trilogy will not be exclusive to next-generation consoles like the PlayStation 6. This news alleviates concerns from players who experienced Final Fantasy VII Remake on the PlayStation 4 and its sequel, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, on the PlayStation 5.
Kitase stated (via), “No, you can rest assured about the next one,” adding humor to his reassurance. Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, echoed this sentiment, expressing the company’s intention to release future titles on a wide range of platforms to reach a broader audience. Although he did not confirm specific plans, Hamaguchi emphasized Square Enix’s commitment to making their games accessible to as many players as possible.
Square Enix has yet to officially announce Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, although the development team has confirmed its plans and the extent to which it is being developed. Based on the game director’s comments, fans can look forward to playing the third part on the PS5 instead of having to buy a new console.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 1 arrived at the end of the PS4’s life cycle, so it was natural to expect the sequel to be exclusive to the PS5. However, this trend appears to be ending, as the development team plans to conclude the trilogy on the PS5.
Square Enix has just released Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PC with improved visuals compared to the PS5 version. In a separate interview, Hamaguchi hinted at the possibility of bringing some PC-specific enhancements to the PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. After the release of the PC version’s trailer, the development team received numerous requests from PS5 players asking for better graphical features, such as reworked lighting and higher-quality textures. Hamaguchi acknowledged these requests and revealed that the team is considering updates within the technical limits of the PS5.
Although the PS5 Pro was not explicitly mentioned, its enhanced capabilities might allow it to support more graphical upgrades compared to the base PS5 console. Lighting improvements, in particular, were highlighted as a significant focus for the PC version. Hamaguchi explained that lighting enhancements were made to ensure character models and environments appear more natural and realistic, addressing feedback about inconsistencies in shadows and under-tree effects.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Parts 1 and 2 are available on both PC and PS5.
