Microsoft and The Coalition have officially announced Gears of War: Reloaded, a modernized version of the original Gears of War, scheduled to launch on August 26, 2025. This reimagined edition of the seminal third-person shooter will be available across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam, with support for cross-progression and cross-play across all platforms. The title will also be accessible on day one via Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, with a suggested retail price of $39.99 USD.
Developed by The Coalition in collaboration with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief, Gears of War: Reloaded reintroduces the 2006 classic with extensive technical enhancements and a wider platform reach. This release includes all content from the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, such as the bonus campaign act, every multiplayer map and mode, and an array of unlockable characters and cosmetics. These are included at no extra cost, providing the most comprehensive version of the original game to date.
With the franchise approaching its twentieth anniversary in 2026, Microsoft emphasizes Reloaded as a celebration of the series’ legacy and an invitation to a new generation of players. The game features significant improvements in both visual and performance aspects, such as 4K resolution, 60 FPS in Campaign, and up to 120 FPS in Multiplayer. Support for HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 surround sound, and remastered assets ensure a high-fidelity experience that matches modern hardware standards. Platform-specific features have also been implemented to maximize the visual and gameplay quality across all supported systems.
Multiplayer functionality is designed to encourage cooperative and competitive play regardless of platform. Two-player co-op is available in the Campaign, while Versus Multiplayer supports up to eight players. Cross-platform play is fully enabled without requiring a Microsoft account, though signing in with one provides additional benefits such as cross-progression and enhanced social features, including cross-platform invites and matchmaking.
Importantly, Gears of War: Reloaded will be offered as a free upgrade to players who purchased the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition prior to 16:00 UTC on May 5, 2025. Eligible users will receive a redemption code via Xbox direct message ahead of the game’s release.
