Santa Monica Studio has announced that God of War Laufey has been delayed to May 20, 2027, pushing the PlayStation 5 exclusive back by roughly three months. The game was originally scheduled to launch on February 16, 2027, but the developer says it needs additional time to complete development.

The God of War Laufey delay was confirmed in an official statement from the studio, which thanked fans for their support following the game’s reveal in June 2026.

“We don’t take for granted the trust placed in the studio,” the developer said, explaining that it wants to deliver an experience that meets the expectations of its audience.

Santa Monica Studio said the extra development time will allow the team to apply the finishing touches and bring the game closer to its full potential. The studio also thanked players for their patience and said more information would be shared soon.

God of War Laufey is being developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It remains exclusive to PS5.

The game was first revealed during Sony’s mid-2026 showcases before receiving additional details at San Diego Comic-Con. It is the eleventh main entry in the God of War franchise and shifts the focus away from Kratos to Laufey, also known as Faye.

Set before the events of 2018’s God of War, the story follows the Frost Giantess as she fights against the Aesir gods while wielding the Leviathan Axe. It will also explore the events leading to her meeting with Kratos, providing a closer look at a character whose history played an important role in the previous games.
