GTA 6 players in Japan will have a limited time to redeem the game’s physical download code, with Rockstar Games confirming that the code will expire 170 days after the game’s launch because of regional regulations.
The information was highlighted by Genki JPN after it appeared on Rockstar’s official support website as part of the FAQ for GTA VI pre-orders. According to the listing, product codes issued in Japan will expire 170 days after their issuance date, which is the game’s launch on 19 November 2026.
The FAQ also confirms that PlayStation download codes are region-specific. Codes purchased in Japan can only be redeemed using a PlayStation account registered in Japan. Other regions, including North America, the United Kingdom, Brazil, South Korea and several territories across Europe, Asia and Latin America, are also restricted to accounts registered within their designated regions.
By comparison, Rockstar states that Xbox codes are not region-locked.
The GTA 6 Japan download code policy follows Rockstar’s confirmation that the game’s physical Standard Edition will use a “code-in-a-box” format rather than including a game disc. The boxed release, scheduled to arrive at retailers on 12 November 2026 ahead of the game’s 19 November launch, includes a single-use digital download key that allows players to pre-load the game.
The physical edition also includes standard pre-order bonuses such as the Vintage Vice City Pack, while players looking for a disc-based version or a boxed Ultimate Edition will instead need to purchase the game digitally, as no physical disc release is planned at launch.
