The Story mode in Rockstar Games’ upcoming open world action-adventure game, GTA VI, appears to be a separate download from the online mode.
The Xbox Store page (via SynthPotato on Twitter/X) for GTA VI appears to indicate that the game will single-player Story mode and multiplayer Online mode will both be individual installs, giving players the flexibility to download only one or delete one and keep the other installed.
The Xbox Store page for GTA VI shows a total of 4 add-ons. One is the Story mode, which doesn’t need to be installed separately. The same is true for a mode titled “Extra.” It’s unclear whether this is the aforementioned Online mode or something else entirely. The 2 downloads that will require individual installs are the Vintage Vice City Pack available to those who pre-order the game and the Ultimate Edition Upgrade available to those who upgrade from the Standard Edition to the Ultimate Edition.
Rockstar Games officially announced that GTA 6 pre-orders will open on June 25, 2026, giving players their first opportunity to secure a copy of one of the most anticipated games in the industry’s history. Pre-orders will go live at midnight local time across participating digital storefronts and retailers. The developer also reaffirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The standard edition will be priced at 79.99 US Dollars, while the newly announced Ultimate Edition will be available for 99.99 US Dollars. According to Rockstar Games, the Ultimate Edition includes an exclusive collection of vehicles, weapons, apparel and other content tied to the game’s protagonists, Jason and Lucia. The developer describes GTA 6 as a single-player experience set within the largest and most detailed version of the series’ world to date. The company has not shared any additional gameplay details as part of the pre-order announcement.
