Hogwarts Legacy Director’s Cut Reportedly In Development, Rocksteady Pitching New Single-Player Title

Warner Bros Games and Avalanche Software’s action role-playing game, Hogwarts Legacy, is set to receive a Director’s Cut, based on the latest report.

According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, many of Rocksteady Studios’ employees are now assisting with the development of a new Director’s Cut version of Hogwarts Legacy. Based on his sources, the studio leads are currently in the process of pitching a new single-player game to executives in an effort to return to its roots.

It’s currently unknown whether the new single-player title Rocksteady Studios is looking to pitch will be set in the DC Comics universe, though that may well be the case. There aren’t any details available on the Director’s Cut version of Hogwarts Legacy at this point, though it is expected to add new content and bring some Quality of Life improvements to the original release.

Rocksteady Studios’ previous title, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League failed to meet Warner Bros’ sales forecasts. During its Q1 2024 Earnings Call, Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav had mentioned that the quarter’s financials were “overshadowed” by the “disappointing” sales of Rocksteady Studios’ Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in the Games group. He had also mentioned the great sales performance of Hogwarts Legacy last year as a contributing factor to the Year-Over-Year quarterly decline.

Not much has been done to address the issues that players have had with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League since its launch. Given the lukewarm reception, it’s fair to say that its first post-launch Season was expected to be a make-or-break situation for the title. However, things didn’t quite turn out as expected, with Season 1 bringing no new story content. The pre-launch trailer for Season 1 had given the impression that it would add a new story arc in relation to Joker. However, that was not the case.
