Sony Interactive Entertainment’s brand new handheld gaming accessory for the PS5, PlayStation Portal, is now available, and if you own the device and are looking to get the best experience out of it, read ahead.
PlayStation Portal runs well out of the box, though there are some settings that need to be adjusted in order to get the best possible experience from the handheld accessory. One thing to consider is that the PlayStation Portal’s display doesn’t support HDR, resulting in colors looking off if your PS5 is set to display in HDR. In addition, if you’re playing a game that offers Fidelity and Performance modes, it’s best to run it in Performance mode.
PlayStation Portal Best Settings
Here are the steps you need to follow in able to get the best experience out of the PlayStation Portal.
- Disable HDR in the PS5 display settings
- Enable performance mode for any game that offers the mode
- Disable 120 Hz mode from the PS5 settings
- Connect to 5 GHz Wi-Fi on your PlayStation Portal
The PlayStation Portal enables access to your PS5 games through your home Wi-Fi without the need for a TV. It can play compatible games installed on your PS5 console, including both PS5 and PS4 titles. The device also provides haptic feedback and adaptive triggers in supported PS5 games. It features a full HD screen for a detailed gaming experience and can deliver gameplay at up to 60fps at a resolution of 1080p.
PlayStation Portal Remote Player is designed for efficient remote play. You can use it on your home Wi-Fi network for better quality, but it is not required. The device can also function on any broadband internet Wi-Fi with a minimum speed of 5Mbps, though a faster connection of at least 15Mbps is recommended for an improved experience. The experience may vary when using PlayStation Portal over public Wi-Fi, and gameplay may be affected as a result.
