The Outer Worlds, released in 2019, is an action role-playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Private Division. It initially launched in October 2019 for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One, followed by a Nintendo Switch version in June 2020. The game received positive reviews from critics and achieved impressive sales, surpassing four million units by August 2021.
The game is played from the first-person perspective. At the beginning, players have the opportunity to create their own character and gain access to a ship that serves as the central hub space. While direct control of the ship is unavailable, it serves as a convenient point for fast travel, granting access to different areas and serving as the player’s persistent inventory space.
Throughout their journey, players can encounter and recruit non-player characters (NPCs) as companions, each with their own unique missions and stories. These companions provide assistance in combat and possess individual skills, special attacks, and the ability to specialize in specific skills. When exploring, players can take up to two companions with them, while the remaining companions remain on the ship.
