Metal Gear Solid 4 Comparison Shows Curious Switch 2 And PS5 Differences

by Salal Awan

Metal Gear Solid 4 is finally leaving its PS3 exclusivity behind nearly two decades after its original release, and a new comparison highlights the differences between the original PS3 version and its upcoming PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 releases.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is included in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 alongside Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Metal Gear: Ghost Babel. The collection is scheduled to release on August 27, 2026, bringing the long-running PS3 exclusive to modern platforms for the first time.

Compared with the PS3 release, the remastered version features a considerable improvement in resolution, shadows and textures. Performance has also received a major upgrade, with the PS3 version running at 30 fps and experiencing drops as low as 15 fps in demanding sections.

Both the PS5 and Switch 2 versions are able to maintain 60 fps, although the PS5 version is reportedly slightly more stable during demanding scenes. The PS5 also offers a higher rendering resolution and improved shadows compared with the Switch 2 release.

Outside of those differences, the two modern versions are described as largely identical. This makes the Switch 2 version an appealing option for players who value portability, while the PS5 version has a small advantage in visual quality and performance stability.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 will launch for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Alongside the games, the collection includes supplemental material such as screenplay and master books, a series database and a soundtrack.
