New Ghost Recon Rumor Mentions Base Management, Character Progression, and Scrapped Permadeath System

Additional details about Ubisoft’s rumored next Ghost Recon game have surfaced online through YouTuber xj0nathan, who claims the upcoming project will include several new squad-management and progression mechanics.

According to the reported information, players will allegedly manage a central base where they can organize and select characters before heading out on missions. The rumor also claims squad members will feature progression systems that require players to level them up over time to improve their effectiveness in combat.

The reported structure may also include recurring weekly objectives and live-service-style progression elements, though Ubisoft has not officially confirmed any details.

One of the more notable claims involves a previously planned permadeath mechanic. According to xj0nathan, the game originally featured a system similar to Hunt: Showdown, in which losing characters during missions would have permanent consequences. However, he stated, “I think they removed it because players in playtests found it too frustrating.”

The latest claims build on earlier reports from insider RogueTX, who previously alleged that the next Ghost Recon title is set in Asia and heavily inspired by tactical shooter Ready or Not. Those reports also suggested the game would feature a more minimal user interface alongside a stronger emphasis on stealth, realism, and squad-based gameplay systems.

The rumored project is believed to be connected to “Project Overlord,” a codename that has repeatedly surfaced in connection with Ubisoft’s next Ghost Recon entry. Ubisoft has yet to officially announce the game.
