Nintendo Switch 2 has surpassed the lifetime UK sales of the GameCube, according to The Game Business Editor-in-Chief Christopher Dring, marking another milestone for Nintendo’s latest console.

Responding to questions on X, Dring said the Switch 2 has now moved ahead of the GameCube in the UK and that the Nintendo 64 is the next system it is set to overtake in the market.

When asked where the Switch 2 ranks among Nintendo’s best-selling UK hardware, Dring said it has not yet reached the top. “No. Wii is about half a million ahead. If you include handhelds, it’s also behind DS.”

Dring also shared updated figures on the wider UK hardware market, stating that Xbox was the only platform holder to record year-on-year console sales growth during the first half of 2026.

“In the UK, Xbox console sales are up for the first six months of the year. The only platform holder to sell more consoles in H1 2026 vs 2025,” he said.

When asked about Nintendo Switch 2’s performance during the first half of 2026 compared with its launch month, Dring replied simply: “+16%.”

Dring also commented on the UK launch performance of Splatoon Raiders, noting that he only had access to physical sales data. According to him, the game’s physical launch sales were “A little lower than Starfox.”

The figures shared by Dring have not been accompanied by detailed sales numbers, but they offer another indication of the Nintendo Switch 2’s strong performance in the UK market since its launch, while Xbox has recorded a rare year-on-year increase in hardware sales during the first half of 2026.
