Phantom Blade Zero has sold more than 4 million copies worldwide within its first three days on sale, marking a strong commercial debut for developer and publisher S-Game. The action RPG launched digitally on October 28, 2026, for PS5 and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The game’s launch also attracted a substantial audience on Steam, where it reached a peak of more than 830,000 concurrent players during its opening weekend. Interest had been building ahead of release, with pre-orders opening in August following a dedicated State of Play presentation.
Pre-order incentives included early-unlock cosmetic items and digital artbooks, while players purchasing through the Epic Games Store received an exclusive cross-promotional item. Physical editions for PS5 are planned for release in 2027.
Built using Unreal Engine 5, Phantom Blade Zero takes place in a dark wuxia setting that S-Game describes as “kungfupunk”. Players control Soul, an elite assassin who has been framed and has only 66 days left to live.
The game received widespread critical acclaim at launch, particularly for its fast-paced martial arts combat and cinematic presentation. Martial arts film star Donnie Yen also assisted with the motion capture work, helping shape the game’s combat animations.
Phantom Blade Zero was developed by S-Game, an independent studio headquartered in Beijing, with additional animation and publishing teams based in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Los Angeles. The company was founded by game director Soulframe Liang and traces its origins to Rainblood, an independent RPG Maker project.
The studio later expanded the franchise through mobile games before moving into AAA console development. Phantom Blade Zero represents a project that has been in development in various forms for more than a decade.
