The developer behind PlayStation Classics, Implicit Conversions, has set its sight on emulation of PS3 titles.
In the roadmap section on its official site, PlayStation Classics developer Implicit Conversions has stated that it is “dreaming about” working on PS3 emulation. As per the development team, it is researching and prototyping the possibility of a PlayStation 3 emulator package for its Syrup emulation engine.
It’s tough to say whether this means PS5 owners will finally be able to run PS3 titles natively via emulation on the current-gen console rather than having to stream them via PS Plus. It’s worth noting that the developer no longer lists its work related to PlayStation Classics on its public roadmap, suggesting that anything listed on its official website is likely related to its own independent projects. As such, it may have a PS3 emulator emulator in development for PC rather than PS5. Only time will tell whether that’s the case.
Implicit Conversions is known for bringing retro classics to modern platforms. There are countless games from previous generations on legacy consoles that players are eager to experience again, but without a functional legacy console, that’s often impossible. While PC emulators exist, they typically lack rigorous testing and quality standards, leaving many players looking for a better way to play these classics. That’s where Implicit Conversions comes in.
The developer’s emulators utilize a blend of high-level emulation (HLE) and low-level emulation (LLE) techniques. This approach allows it to replace certain hardware components, graphical effects, and even game functions with modern equivalents. The result is high-quality emulation that preserves the authenticity of the original experience while introducing modern enhancements and features. With these techniques, Implicit Conversions is able to bring innovations like networked multiplayer, updated bloom and lighting effects, improved video quality, and even re-imagined input control systems to classic games across a variety of platforms.
Recently, XboxEra’s Shpeshal_Nick had claimed that Sony Interactive Entertainment has been working on native PS5 compatibility for PS3 titles. Read about it here.
